About
Let me tell you a bit about myself! I'm a New York City based game designer and an Adjunct Professor of Game Design at the NYU Game Center. I hold an MFA in Game Design from that program, and prior to that received my BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Thomas Hunter Honors Program at Hunter College, CUNY.
At the Game Center I had the great fortune to learn from Naomi Clark, Bennett Foddy, and Eric Zimmerman, whose teachings guided me towards developing my own identity as a designer. I favor the rapid prototyping approach, playtesting early and often. Storytelling and mechanics are equally important to me. I believe both are crucial elements that must not merely coexist, but harmonize, for a game to really sing. I tend toward's player-centric design, and care a great deal about usability and accessability. Finally, I spend a great deal of time thinking about space in games and the different ways in which we experience it. This probably derives from my absolute obsession with maps. Seriously, my undergraduate thesis was titled Video Game Cartography of Imaginary Worlds, and explored the various relationships between maps, games, and fantasy worlds.
